About Kathie

Dogs have been an important part of her family since the 1930's when Kathie's great grandfather established Sangamo Kennel to raise Cocker Spaniels. Kathie learned formal obedience training at the Capital Canine Obedience Club in Illinois and accepted her first private client in 1967. Kathie still continues her training education through seminars, self-study, and networking with some of the best trainers, consultants and behaviorists in the business.

Kathie earned certification through the national independent testing program of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). She is certified as a Dog Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). Both programs maintain high educational standards for recertification.

As a trainer and behavior consultant, Kathie is uniquely qualified in evaluating, managing and modifying a wide range of challenging dog behaviors, building and strengthening the human / canine relationship, providing advice about choosing a dog, and finding the right training classes for you.

Kathie is a member of several professional organizations including the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, the Animal Behavior Management Alliance, the Animal Behavior Society, and the International Institute of Applied Companion Animal Behavior. She is an AKC Approved Evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen Program (CGC). She provides behavior assessments and volunteer training for animal shelters and conducts bite prevention and other presentations for educational and civic organizations. Kathie is the author of the book, "Dogs...Made Easy! A New Owner's Manual".
